Automat, 936 Chung Kind Road, Chinatown, Los Angeles, CA 90012. This brand spanking new experiment is really super cool. Naomi, the owner is an art history major, who upon graduating, decided to open up a food place amongst all the art galleries on Chung King Road. There are three mega-red vending machines and they have sandwhiches you might see at Whole Foods and unusual drinks like Cuban Soda or Japanese Ice Coffee. Today I bought a bag of "Milky", the Japanese white caramel-like candy; Sahale Snack of pistachio that includes sesamee seeds, pepitas, fig and Moroccan Harissa; and lastly a bag of Popcorn Indiana's authentic Summer Picnic BBQ Kettlecorn.
