Aki's Village Inn on MLK

Aki's Village Inn, 3710 W Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90008 is easy to miss because it's inside a cluster of stores on a humongoid lot that used to be an OG mall but is now an empty space. However, the Village Inn still stands and is quite popular. It was my first time. I perused the menu and asked about the fired chicken. They said it was really goo and an customer sitting over there, a regular, said I would not regret it. I did not regret it while i was eating but later in the day, perhaps just a little.

Russell's Donuts in Ventura

DElicious! i was already full from breakfast but how could I resist stopping at this place. Classic. 571 N Ventura Ave, Ventura, CA 93001 ·

Restauration in Long Beach

Restauration, 2708 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90814, is a American cuisine restaurant. We had salad, fries and burgers. It was very good but I am not sure if I need to go again. It was fun to go out with my son and his friend. They both are in the Masters Program for Sports Management at CSULB.

Republique on La Brea

Republique, 624 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036 is a semi-high end meatery but we went for the burger. It was Kio Griffith, William Roper, myself and carl Stone. Quite a group and picky, picky, picky... We all felt the burger was great but the bun was over powering and the toppings made it hard to taste the meat. Great fries, though.

Renaud's in Santa Barbara

I went to SB to interview artist Kim Yasuda for Metro. I had brought her donuts and she recommended on my way back to L.A. to go to Renaud's, a French bakery/ coffee shop. A kind of one upmanship. And....she won. 1324 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

The Pie Project for Jeffe

I think this was one of my better ideas. My friend Jeffrey James Mohr decided to leave Metro for greener pastures so for his farewell, I decided to get a pie from every single favorite pie shop of mine. It was really wonderful. Pie Hole, Canters, Dupars, House of Pie and Urth. I forgot to go to Tropical and Marie Calendars, oops. We had more than enough. That was fun.

Olson's Scandanavian Deli on Pico Blvd

Jeez, as i sit here, I can't remember who recommended this place to me...Douglas Goodwin? Lance Glover? Yikes. Anyway, my son came home a couple of weekends ago and we usually get a bite to eat together so I suggested this place. Olson's, 5660 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90019. Wow, that was really delicious. I'm not learned about this cuisine so i wanted to try everything. They also have a deli-market going on. I got Christmas Soda, which was festive. Merry Christmas!!!!

Hoy Ka Noodle in Hollywood

I think Jennifer Moon suggested this place? I don't remember. Maybe it was Mr. Snuggles? Anyway, the owner told us that the noodles was specific to a bay in Thailand. So of course, we ordered that, then she recommended the vegetable dish, so we ordered that, then she said we had to have the spring rolls, so we ordered that. it was all very delicious and we were so full afterwards. Jennifer told me she went home and took a nap. I think i did too. We didn't even drink beer. Can you imagine if we did. Yikes! 5401 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027

Eggs Etc. in Long Beach

Once in a while, i get to hang out with my son. He lives in Long Beach. This time, we had breakfast at Eggs Etc. which is near his apartment. Eggs Etc. looks like it's been there a while and the service is great. It's got that diner vibe and breakfast is primetime. 550 Redondo Ave, Long Beach, CA 90814 . It's definitely a family and neighborhood spot. you get the sense there are mostly regulars in the dining room. There's also an outdoor seating area. We left full and satisfied but not sleepy, which is important.

Copenhagen Bakery in Culver City

I believe Jennifer Moon first told me about this place. She said it was pretty good but their hours were a challenge. True, it took me several passes before I found it open. I ordered several recommended selections. The servers were a bit smug but they served me and I appreciated that. It's delicious but oddly it all tastes the same. Not sure how i feel about that? Is that how they role in Copenhagen? 11113 Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232

Cojutepeque on 3rd Street west of Alvarado

That night, work friends and I went to a place, I think it's called Woman's Room? I could be wrong, it's a feminist venue that has readings and bands, etc. We got there a bit early and were collectively starving. I have always wanted to try this place, Cojutepeque, 2610 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90057. I know they have papusas, that much I knew. Our entourage was skeptical but in the end, we all agreed it was quite a find. Rich papusas and some wonderful fish dishes. The service is great and the servers has super cool but of course, it helps to speak Spanish. I was the only illiterate customer, probably in the whole cafe. It's always good to have friends.

Ebaes near USC

Went to an event at the Veraslavasay Panorama with a friend and since we were a bit early and hungry, we decided to find a place to eat. Stumbling onto this place, we decided to give it a try. Ebaes 3219 Glendale Blvd LA CA 90039. They had a soy sauce based ramen and a miso based ramen so we ordered each. Couldn't resist the Raging Bitch IPA. Turns out, an IPA is pretty good with a ramen. Who knew?
