I'd heard of BUZZ before but this was my first time. Ms. Jen gave me a tour of the Last Bookstore, Buzz and treated me to pasta dinner. Buzz is awesome. Great selection of spirits and a tasting bar in the back. North-easrt corner of Spring Street and 5th Street.
Lily invited a bunch of us to her friends house for a going away lunch. She ordered this pig and I couldn't help but post this thing. How many pounds was it? I think it was in the 20's? It also came with gravy. I know it looks tremendous, and it is in many ways, but it was delicious. Just close your eyes and pretend it came out of a plastic colorfully marketed container. Four three months, my beloved Roland Juno 60 (1980's analog keyboard synthesizer) was on the bench at the Roland Repair Shop. Alas, they called me and said the parts are no longer made by Roland and they contacted various venues and no one had them. It was going to cost over $600 to fix. I think I bought this off Craigslist for $400 12 years ago. Picking it up was painful. I stopped by Toyito's for lunch, feeling defeated. Although not a consolation but a nice pat on the back, I guess. The Peruvian chicken here was absolutely delicious. The green sauce is awesome. 8510 Paramount Bl Downey CA 90240.
Tomas Benitez, one of our City's Living Treasurers, posted on FB about this place. A Greek restaurant who's young owners play noise music in the store all day. WHAT? Sounds like heaven. It's actually a mix of industrial, trance, noise, experimental and metal. The food, is wonderful, fresh and filling. It's right across the street from the Farmer John's factory, with that big farm mural. 3632 Soto Street Vernon CA 90058
It was a pleasure to discover Little Jewel with Ms. Carol and Ms. Janet. Ms. Carol is from Texas and is familiar with New Orleans cooking. She was blown away by the authentic Po-Boy. We shared an Oyster Po-Boy and a Shrimp Po-Boy. The story apparently is the chef came to LA, tried a bunch of gigs but nothing stuck. He decided to go to the culinary program at LA Trade Tech and there he meet the folks who now work at Little Jewel and this team is producing some amazing AMAZING eats. I've gone back since with the fabulous Lynnel George, who's family is from New Orleans and she is very enthusiastic about Little Jewel. My third trip was yesterday, so i am going through this menu that includes fried catfish and a meatball sandwich called the Godfather. I'm told there's beans and rice. i have yet to get to the desserts but I will. i will… 207 Ord Street LA CA 90012
I forgot who recommended this place? It had very high marks on Yelp and inside there are many signed pix of famous people especially Matt Groening. The ambiance is dark and exotic. The service is fantastic. Really nice people. I think maybe, we ordered the wrong food but it was just ok, a little too salty. Maybe, our expectations were too high? That happens. You enter a place with all this fanfare and then it falls short. It's not a fair playing field. The dessert was good. I also think maybe we were supposed to drink beer. I think that would have made a major impact on the flavors. 5233 Sunset Blvd, LA CA 90021

Hikmet Lowe was in town so of course, we had to get her hooked up with Aandrea Stang which resulted in breakfast. They hadn't seen each other in years so that was nice. They talked shop most of the time while i ate. It's all good. Check out this spread! That eggs benedict was absolutely silky and delicious. This place is near the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It was all strategic, Hikmet wanted to see the Haizer. Great breakfast on a Sunday.
Felix Continental Cafe is located @ 36 Plaza Square Orange CA 92866. A Cubano joint so I had a Cubano Sandwich. This was the morning I had two breakfasts so I was laying low. I'll have to go back some day and have some stew and rice with plantains. People were super nice and it was awesome hanging with artist Richard Turner.
So we had a crack of dawn photo shoot at the Willowbrook station a couple of weeks ago and finished around 8:30am. Hungry, Jennifer yelped and found us Watts Coffee Shop. I'll tell, ya, we missed it twice, it's hidden in a kind of mini-mall/ community center but once you find it, you find it. Check out the photos. This was really delicious food. I am most definitely going back. I especially loved Wattstock playing on the VCR. Old skool. 1827 E 103rd Street LA CA 90002
Lunch time and your around Sawtelle, let the sampling continue. We went to Fujita, which neither of us had ever been. Tsukemen with noodles so perfect. The chashu was cold which i didn't like but the broth is so good and we really enjoyed our meal. 2050 Sawtelle Bl LA CA 90025
