Jamaica Cakes in West LA

Jamaica Cakes, 11511 W Pico Blvd LA CA 90064, is a small but rich bakery. Their cakes look amazing. I asked what was their most popular and I got Rasberry Champagne Cake, so I ordered a slice with a cappuccino. I think this was a lot richer than I am used to, I couldn't finish it but it was a great experience.

San Francisco Saloon in West LA

Decades strong, SF Saloon has been here a really long time. The original sports bar. I ordered a Racer 5 IPA and the Bruin Burger (avocado, bacon and jack cheese). The ambience of the multi screen sports bar meets the western saloon. 11501 Pico Blvd, LA CA

7-11 in Culver City

I can't find who designed this but there sure is a lot of criticism about this 7-11. It's been labeled the "Death-Star" design. It doesn't look very Death Star to me, maybe Tatooine? The toy train building is on the same street as is the saved vintage ice skating building, so it seems like it's on very good company.

Chris' and Pitt's BBQ in Bellflower

Lunch time, driving from one meeting to another and you see a building like this with those three magic letters B-B-Q. How can you not stop? Pork ribs and a delicious sauce, baked potato, salad and bread. Chris' and Pitt's BBQ is located at 9839 Artesia Blvd, Bellflower CA 90706.

Petrillo in San Gabriel

On Valley, there seems to be an endless array of wonderful places to eat. I had passed this place several times but last night, I was thinking pizza so I decided to walk in and eat! There's a joyful brilliance when you get the sense that only locals come here, family run and a complete honest old school vibe. I ordered the Petrillo's Speciality Pizza with a Pyramid Hefeweizen. It was an awesome dinner and a great way to celebrate a great day.

Sugarfish in Downtown LA

Trusting my instinct and chance, walking down 7th at lunch and I saw "Sugarfish" and I just walked in with no idea what it was. Sugarfish is a chain sushi shop but with a mid-range price with an above average presentation. On the menu, a sort of omakase, "Trust Me", "Trust Me Lite", and "Nozawa Trust Me". I chose Trust Me and wow it was delicious. There's such a joy about getting one serving at a time, focusing on the aesthetics, the freshness and the delight of the palette. This Sugarfish is located at 600 W 7th Street LA CA 90017.

All Kinds of BBQ at the Irwindale Speedway

Irwindale, known for several things; the Serrachi plant, quarries, and the Irwindale Speedway. I went, for the first time, to the Speedway, actually, it was the Drag-strip. This is where amateurs can race down the strip. It was awesome to watch. They had several food booths there and I chose All Kinds of BBQ and ordered the brisket. It was delicious and was a lot of fun just soaking up the culture of the Speedway with BBQ.

Heritage Family Pantry in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD!!!! I was getting new tires in Lakewood and stumbled on this really cool OG diner. Heritage Family Pantry is located at 2601 Carson Street Lakewood CA 90702. The servers were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the salmon diner w vegetables and mashed potatoes and gravy. The food was average but i really enjoyed eating my dinner in there. I suspect the steak would have been a better choice.

Rio Cafe at Rio Hondo College

There was a feeling of fun, novelty for me, being on the Rio Hondo College campus and eating in their cafeteria. We had a Metro event there for artists and set up a little early. We ordered the tostada, burrito and a chicken sandwich. I drenched the sandwich in ketchup, mayo and mustard. they had those dispensers that they have at Dodger stadium. I guess we all agreed that it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be and let's just leave it at that.
