Ordo on Normandie Avenue
After a very frustrating experience at LACMA, Boaz and I found ourselves back in the Koreatown area. We were sort of wandering, driving with no target but were somewhat hungry. Boaz and I use the same copy center for our zines and in the mini mall is Ordo, LINK
I'd never been there but Boaz highly recommended it.
They say the cuisine is Traditional Central Asian and Eastern European which of course is a large swatch of geography. Some of the items seem to be specific to Kurdistan. Maybe that's helpful? I was not familiar with these items. Boaz, who's Jewish, said some of the dishes are similar to Jewish/ Yiddish dishes but with a different name.
Chalap: a fermented drink that was refreshing and reminded me of yogurt
Manti: large dumplings packed with stewed beef
Gulash: a combo dish of Russian goulash which is a beef stew that's tomato based. I got it with mash potatoes but you can get it with rice.
This was really exceptional. There are several more items on the menu so I look forward to going back sometime and trying those out as well.
