Yama Sushi, their new location in Koreatown
I heard the back story which is Yama was a one store operation in San Bernardino, very much loved by the community. Someone bought is from the original family and has started opening up Yama's across LA County. My friend Mike Pak posted the about-to-be-opened Yama in Koreatown and that weekend, i was driving down Olympic and there it was, opening, with all those flower displays on easels so familiar in Japanese culture i.e. store openings, funerals, etc.
That was three weeksa ago and I've been there five times already.
This post documents the time i went with writer Kate Maruyama. I think this is boht of our first times. It was glorious and really fresh. I went another time and it wasn't so great. I think you have to check the label and see that they made it recent. That's what I've learned.
The other aspect of Yama is their mini grocery. They have all of these amazing Asian snacks. Some of them I've seen before but others were completely new to me.
Lastly, you can order large party trays and there's fish experts on staff to prepare what I would imagine to be amazing platters of sushi and sashimi.
