Tea at Shiloh in the LA Arts District
Tea at Shiloh
Website: link
Loctaed at 2035 Bay St Unit 102 LA CA 90021. The trick to not getting lost is that you drive on Mateo and Bay is almost like an alley way or an industrial driveway into a series of buildings flanking left and right, east and west. When you notice the gym and al the folks in their exercise and yoga gear, you're in the right place. Find a parking space and look for the building pictured above.
Once you're inside, in the "room", you might be greeted by super nice folks who might ask you if it's your first time and so the experience begins.
I think Tea at Shiloh is the ultimate chill room. It's designed well with "places" to claim here and there. Do you wanna view from above? you'll have ascend the stairway to the balcony like secret spot. Do you wanna be in a small enclosed room like a puppy? Do you wanna sit a community table with watercolor tools? Do you wanna recline on a futon like sitting area?
The teas are rare imports and DYI elixirs by the keepers of tea and they will explain each concotion and you can try all of them in the course of the night if you desire.
The live music selection is eclectic. The night i was there, they had a "jazz" band. It was alright but nothing magical. It felt the ensemble of young musuicians were sort of calling it in if you will and there was nothing particularly unique going on. There's a philosophy they taught me when i was learning drums and that is learn to read the room. I think the first time they ended and on one applauded should have been a hint but they were oblivious and continued their traditional "jazz" set. it was a little sad but such is life.
All to say that if you can visit when they have something more ambient or so, maybe that would be a better experience.
The tea.
WOW! Of course I had a cup of all three. I am not going to detail my teas because i sense it might be totally different if you go. Just be ready for a tea you've never had before but wished you had.
