Parsnip in Highland Park
I first learned about Parsnip while listening to the radio. It's a heartfelt family inspired story. When the owner/chef spoke, i really got a sense that the food was going to be very home-cooking with a level of sophistication that is becoming the norm to neighborhoods that are economically changing. It took a couple of years but i finally ate a meat at Parsnip, 5623 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042, last week.
Highland Park and especially York has gotten international attention for it's on going displacement of locals/ former-locals. it's a painful change that's happening and i know it's complicated. Why can't we design a win-win scenario in economic development? Why is it always economic displacement?
Parsnip, that beef stew. Whoa! That was amazing. Beef Goulash. Whoa. And they recommended I order a flat-bread called Plachinta. The pickled side you pile on reminded me of Papusas, which i am addicted too.
I left this place in a kind of daze of bliss, slightly guilt-ridden, a quandary.
