Park Chop Suey in STL

In many of my interviews with STL DJ's, I kept hearing about the STL original sandwich, the St. Paul.

The Counterpublic entourage escorted me to the creator of the St. Paul, Pork Chop Suey, 1321 Chouteau Ave, St Louis, MO 63103.

I was also able to order a Vess grape soda. Vess, also rooted in STL, has been around for decades and is a favorite of many STL natives.

The sandwich is basically an Egg Foo Young between two slices of white bread. As you can see on the menu, there are various iterations. We all ordered the traditional St. Paul. All of us were experiencing this STL original for the first time.

It comes with condiments. I think I spread mayo on my slices.

I think we were all suspicious at first. in fact, we ordered enough so each of us had half a sandwich, just in case. To our surprise, we enjoyed the legend. It's slightly bland so the condiments make a lot of sense. Maybe next time I will add the ketchup.
