# 463
This past Christmas, visual and performance artist Jeffrey James Mohr received a smoker from his family. He had one once upon a time and has fond memories of smoking pork, salmon, etc. And so, like most artists would naturally do, this smoker made its way into his art. On February 20th, 2010, Jeff performed “Tidings” at Project Room G3, San Pedro CA. Excerpts of the performance can be viewed at http://www.jeffreyjamesmohr.com/Tidings-H.264%20800Kbps.mov
Tidings is a ritualistic/ installation that draws on memories of visiting the local butcher, BBQ, and the sensual actions that make up food preparation all mixed in a aroma of Fluxus aesthetics.
I love it when artists use food in they’re work and there’s certainly a long history of it. In fact, Radio and food personality Evan Kleiman is moderating a panel along those lines at the Getty Center on April 8, 2010. Among the speakers is local photographer Charlie Grosso. Lastly, this is entry 463. As we get closer and closer to entry 500, I have decided in part due to the encouragement of several friends, to have a special event for this inevitable moment in time. If you are interested in attending, please email me your name, e mail address, mailing address, and phone number to me at cafelala@yahoo.com
I am not sure when this will take but at this rate, it may happen sometime this summer or sooner. Thanks for your support and enjoy.
