YIA CAFFE in East LA

 Once upon a time, my job was to coordinate the public artwork for the rail stations in East LA and back then, this place was a Funnel Cake shop. For years, I would eye it on my way to a meeting ot site visit until one day, a summer day, decided to try this place on my way back to the office at Union Station. I had a traditional Funnel Cake even though there were many variations. I ate the entire small cake before I started my car and I swear it felt like I was going to explode with all the sugar that was in my body. I was almost scary or maybe it was scary. I could feel my heart beating in my throat.

Decades later, this shop is the opposite of that experience. YIA CAFFE located at 3557 E 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90063 is not only got a delicious Latte but look at this sanctuary in the back. I had ordered about 30 minute to closing but thoroughly enjoyed my brief respite in the little forest.

On my way back I bought some mole at El Mercado and got a gallon of paint at Brooklyn Hardware for old time sake. It was a nostalgic field trip.
