Udon reminds me of my grandmother, when I was about seven or eight. She came to the US to visit us one summer. One day, she decided to make udon from scratch. That udon lunch still floats in my mind. it was an amazing experience. That's my reference. So what can an udon place do? Switch it up! That's what Monzo does. They have the traditional udon dishes but their most popular is a dish where the udon is treated like pasta with a cream sauce and cuts of smoked bacon. Delicious and hearty, a great meal on a cold and windy day.
